The AEVITŪ Simulator will open up new opportunities for driver training professionals who seek to gather experience in the use of AEVITŪ "drive-by-wire" control systems. This technology will allow operators to experience "real world" situations and obstacles utilizing the latest AEVITŪ driving controls, while driving over 70 square miles of virtual roads and tracks.

The AEVITŪ Simulator prototype was first introduced at the 2004 ADED conference in Buffalo, NY.. It then toured Europe to gather feedback from driver training professionals and government agencies worldwide, before being offered as a limited product offering in 2005. The results are phenomenal!

The compact, robust design allows the simulator to be wheeled through normal 3-foot interior passage doors and to be shipped by truck and transport carriers worldwide. Setup is simple due to the quik-latch system used on the simulator cabinet. One plug into a standard 110Vac outlet (220Vac available) and the AEVIT simulator is operational. Sit behind the wheel and operate your virtual vehicle utilizing the same controls utilzed in an on-the-road evaluation van equipped with EMC control systems. It couldn't be easier!

The AEVITŪ Driving Simulator, is designed to perform separate and distinct tasks in order to gauge driving skill.

First, we understand that a therapist or clinician must assess critical cognitive and physical skills to determine whether or not a client has the ability to operate a vehicle safely and effectively.

Second, if they have the core abilities needed to operate a vehicle, it is necessary to evaluate their performance in real-life situations. This includes driving in busy city traffic, expressways, at night, in adverse weather, and in other risky and complex situations. If rehabilitation is warranted, it is equally important to re-train clients how to drive again utilizing AEVITŪ control systems.

We accomplish these goals by using specialized PC based training and testing software (STARS) from Simulator Systems International, and a specifically designed AEVIT system to communicate with STARS PC based driving simulation firmware.

STARS
The STARS system includes assessment and evaluation modules designed to measure reaction time, form and color perception, driving accuracy, memory recognition, strength capacities and effective driving capacity in real-world situations. Now you can prescribe the proper AEVITŪ driving controls, after evaluating your client on the exact AEVITŪ system and setups used during simulation! This will save time and money once your client transitions to the actual "on-the-road" training portion of the evaluation.

Here are a few of the FEATURES:
  • Specialized assessment and evaluation modules (click text for link) designed to test a client's reaction time, strength capabilities, shape and color recognition, memorization and field of view.
  • A fully interactive and comprehensive curriculum package designed using a building block approach to train your client how to merge, pass, scan for hazards and other conflicts, drive in congested traffic, 2-lane and rural roads, intersections, crash avoidance, adverse weather and much more.
  • Multi-view replay of your clients performance.
  • Wheel chair accessibility in the comfort of your home or office.
  • Completely portable.
  • Specialized AEVIT Input Devices and all EMC Orthotic adapters to make "fitting" easier.
  • Fully-interactive simulation dynamics.
  • Multi-language capabilities - with a click of the button, all on-screen text, menu text, instruction, and voice narration is changed to Spanish or French.
  • High-speed, Intel Pentium 4 Processor, hard drives, CD-ROM, floppy drive, USB ports, & Windows operating system.
  • Samsung SyncMaster 910 digital flatscreen (3) monitor array.
  • Office software package & Internet Ready
  • A virtually maintenance free design.

EMC is currently venturing into the development of a "virtual modelling" software package, to allow accurate placement and dimensioning of clients in their motor vehicle equipped with EMC products.

This new tool from EMC will allow driver evaluators to accurately model their clients and determine if the vehicle they would like is applicable, and what modifications will be required if any. Simple pull-down menus will allow selection and placement of all EMC equipment exactly as they were when the client was evaluated.

A Few of the Features:
  • Create virtual client from simple dimensions
  • Select wheelchair type/make/model (if wheelchair driver)
  • Model virtual client in seat/wheelchair configuration
  • Map spatial range of motion (2-axis) around client model
  • Select vehicle type; make/model/year
  • Select lift/ramp type/make/model
  • Select standard lowered floor and raised door dimensions
  • Position client in vehicle; driver and passenger positions and check for adequate entrance and visual parameters
  • Select and Place EMC equipment in vehicle
  • Output accurate, dimensioned, 3-view drawings
